A Lasting tribute

With the passing of my dad came the daunting task of picking the headstone. The marker that will lay as a tribute to both my parents long after we have all passed from this earth. My mom is amazing and sheknew exactly what she wanted making this very easyon all of us. We were in the Monument place for mere moment it seemed and then began the wait. She had constructed a crude marker from paper and laminate for the time being but the elements were taking a toll so time was of the essence. There were rough copies and final drafts to pour over to make sure this ever lasting tribute was just right. One late July afternoon I returned her car and we made a quick trip to my dad's resting place to find that it had finally been placed. To say it was not an emotional moment would be a lie. It was odd to see his name carved there with the date of his birth and also the date of his death. It was almost as if up until that moment I was expecting him to walk through the door and say I'm home. Seeing that there in the cold hard stone was a shocking reality that this would never happen and he is indeed gone. Gone only from our site, but not from our hearts.
